The social networking site has announced they will soon be testing a new algorithm-based feed, rather than showing your entire feed in reverse-chronological order.
In other words, your feed’s photos and videos will soon be showing up in order of what the site believes you’ll engage with the most.
Instagram announced the change on its blog earlier, saying: “The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post.”
“If your favorite musician shares a video from last night’s concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in. And when your best friend posts a photo of her new puppy, you won’t miss it.”
In February, Twitter suffered a backlash after similarly suggesting a Facebook-style algorithmic timeline.
The hashtag #RIPTwitter rapidly took off globally, soon prompting the network’s CEO to speak out and reassure the public.
Regarding Instagram’s announcement, a number of users are already taking to Twitter to express their disapproval.

Instagram is currently home to more than 400 million regular users, which could explain the new move.
Kevin Systrom, the co-founder and chief executive of Instagram, told The New York Times that companies are needing to take action to handle the massive amounts of content coming through.
He said: “On average, people miss about 70 percent of the posts in their Instagram feed. What this is about is making sure that the 30 percent you see is the best 30 percent possible.”
He also said he was conscious of people’s reactions to the change, saying: “If it’s one thing we do really well as a company, it’s that we take big change slowly and deliberately and bring the community along with us.
“It’s not like people will wake up tomorrow and have a different Instagram.”
